Ingredients
- For the Apple Topping
2 Honeycrisp apples, peeled and diced
2 tbsp butter
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
- For the Waffles
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp salt
2 large eggs
1¾ cups whole milk
⅓ cup melted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
- For the Cinnamon Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp milk
½ tsp vanilla extract
¼ tsp cinnamon
Directions
- Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and salt. Cook for 8–10 minutes until the apples are tender and coated in a thick caramel sauce. Set aside.
- Preheat your waffle iron. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined.
- Grease the waffle iron lightly. Cook the batter according to your waffle maker’s directions until the waffles are golden brown and crisp.
- Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
- Stack two waffles on a serving plate. Spoon the warm cinnamon apples generously over the waffles. Drizzle with the cinnamon glaze. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- For extra crunch, sprinkle chopped toasted pecans over the top.
- Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent brunch dessert.
